ABOUT STUDI0 R0LAND

Hello. My name is Benjamin Roland* Laramie. I am a Rhode Island native and Bay Area–based designer and builder. This site is a collection of my work.

With more than a decade of professional experience in industrial design and manufacturing, I work from both ends of the process—designing from first principles and building the result by hand. My practice spans commissioned furniture, objects, and small-scale spatial design—work that is conceived, detailed, and fabricated in my Bay Area shop. In addition to bespoke commissions, I maintain a small collection of made-to-order pieces and periodically host hands-on prototyping workshops for individuals and organizations interested in experiencing the design and fabrication process directly.

Please be in touch.

*Roland Leonard Laramie (1927–2019) was my grandfather. He was a professional photographer for more than forty years, an amateur craftsman, a loyal husband to my YiaYia, a funny guy, and an all-around wonderful person. Throughout my life—particularly in childhood—he enabled, educated, and encouraged me to make things.

In addition to knowledge, he passed on some of his father’s woodworking tools to me. I still use my great-grandfather’s combination square every day in the shop. As I was named after him, I’ve named my studio practice in his honor.

This one is for you, Papou.
